Erhard Löblein

Erhard Löblein
Born: 1932 in Marktbreit, Germany
Lives and works in Erkrath, Germany

The simplified, almost primitive rendering of the characters in Erhard Löblein´s paintings expect the viewer to posess the ability to concentrate on the essential. The central figures seem to be too big for the canvas and give the impression of an undesired tension. The figure almost wants to break through the frame of the image to escape. The fact that eyes are often closed or covered takes away the identity of the characters and allows them to be projected onto every single one of us.
